Last week, Rivian made some remarkable updates to the range for their 2023 R1T and R1S EVs that have just been confirmed by the EPA. Thanks to these changes, this electric pickup truck is now officially the longest-range model available in America! That’s right – beat out all of its competition with an unprecedented EPA-estimated range rating.
The 2023 Rivian R1T in Quad-Motor configuration with a Large battery pack now offers a staggering EPA-estimated range of 328 miles (527 kilometers). That’s an impressive 14-mile (22-kilometer) difference from the 2022 model which had only 314 miles (505 kilometers).
The revised range rating is for the 2023 R1T with 21-inch wheels; if you opt for 22-inch wheels, then you will get an EPA estimated mileage of 303 miles (487 kilometers). However, choosing 20-inch wheels will bring down your expected total to 289 miles (465 kilometers).
After a software update, the Rivian R1S SUV has seen an impressive increase in range to 321 miles – that’s 5 more than before! Additionally, according to the EPA website, this model now boasts an MPG equivalent of 73 – 3 points higher than its previous rating. The 2023 Rivian R1S is certainly proving itself as one of the most efficient electric vehicles on the market today.
According to the EPA, drivers of the 2023 R1T will now enjoy an estimated fuel cost savings of $50 per year in comparison to its 2022 counterpart. This estimation is based on a driving composition comprising 45% highway and 55% city use as well as 15,000 miles annually (24,140 kilometers) at today’s fuel prices.
It’s worth keeping in mind that when Rivian introduces the Max battery pack with their dual-motor AWD powertrain, expected sometime mid-2023, the R1T will experience an even greater jump in its driving range.
Rivian recently declared that the R1T Quad-Motor with Max battery pack as initially projected will no longer be presented. Two days prior, they informed R1T reservation holders that a Quad-Motor R1T equipped with a Max battery pack wouldn’t be obtainable until 2023. To ensure preorder holders can receive their vehicles in early 2023, Rivian advised them to switch to Quad-Motors fitted with Large battery packs instead.
With the enhanced Max battery pack and dual-motor AWD powertrain, Rivian has exceeded their original goal of 400 miles for the R1T’s range – surpassing even what was expected from the Quad-Motor with Max Battery.
The EPA's estimated range for R1T Quad-Motor with Large pack battery is now as high as 328 miles, making it the highest-range electric truck on the market.️⚡️With software updates, we can continually improve vehicle efficiency over time, resulting in higher range. pic.twitter.com/xo52tsGugQ
