Lincoln has introduced the modern Model L100 Concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. featuring aero-inspired design and modern technology into a car that is designed to be “the immersive interior sanctuary of tomorrow.”
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of 1922’s Model L, the brand’s first luxury car The Model L100 Concept takes inspiration from the design heritage of the brand as it advances its vision for mobility in the near future.
Lincoln states that its fully electric Model L100 Concept pushes the limits that the company’s Quiet Flight design, and we be in agreement that it is one step further in comparison to previously unveiled Lincoln Star Concept unveiled in April of this year. According to the automaker it is the Model L100 Concept “embraces the tension between exuberant elegance and subtle restraint,” which is a very precise description.
The vehicle is hard to classify, since its sleek and aerodynamic body is reminiscent of an amalgamation of grand tourers and shooting brake. The striking features include the aero-shaped, low-to-the-ground design, the K-tail that allows air to flow over the vehicle, clean surfaces , and the smart covers for wheels that make use of sensors and lighting to signal movements, battery life, and the presence of a human.
The hood’s transparent design is an attractive feature and hides an ornamental greyhound hood made of crystal that catches the light and depth. It was originally chosen as a design by Edsel Ford during the 20th century, the hood ornament represents elegance, grace and speed.
Two massive doors that open on both sides, with a glass-topped roof. It opens up completely, showing the 2+2’s lounge-like interior as an element of the Lincoln Embrace welcoming sequence. It’s not a steering wheel visible because Lincoln Embrace is a fully autonomous car. Lincoln L100 Concept is a fully autonomous vehicle, which is said to provide an efficient vehicle experience and connectivity, and technology-driven innovation.
The most important interior feature is an interactive, central console chessboard with an evocative chess piece controller that is able to capture light and depth by redesigning the controls in the cabin.
The control replaces traditional wheel steering, which makes the experience effortless and intuitive. There are two seats that allows for social and driver-centric seating options, as well as the possibility of transforming the space to create an environment that is more comfortable, as well as providing the impression of a real third space.
Another notable characteristic is the electronic floor that works together in conjunction with the ambient lights and canopy. This helps provide an individual experience that will improve the mood of passengers. Designers designed this Model L100 cabin with animal-free materials, as well as luxury options such as amethyst-colored accents made of recycled suede.
This is unfortunate, as Lincoln doesn’t reveal anything about the idea’s electric powertrain. Its Model L100 is said to utilize the latest generation of battery cells and pack technology “which will deliver game changing energy density and enable efficient, structural integration by treating the entire vehicle as a system.”
