BMW could need to review the safety aids it offers in the i4 following the fact that its electric-powered version 4 Series Gran Coupe only got four stars out of five in the European New Car Assessment Program (EuroNCAP).

The safety group had positive things to say about the i4's structural capabilities by conducting a series of crash tests, however in the case of emergency lane-keeping system it didn't seem to perform according to the expectations.

this BMW i4 is listed in the report as "Marginal" under the emergency Lane Keeping subcategory of Lane Support which is a subcategory within Safety Assist in their rankings.

In addition, the points were removed for the lack of an occupant detection feature for the driver's chair and rear passengers, even though it did include it for front passengers.

The vehicle is also not equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for pedestrians while driving in reverse. A feature that is now mandatory for complete points within the AEB category.

Points were removed from other categories such as Frontal Crash Protection, where knee airbags for both the driver along with the front-passenger are required for the maximum score to be given.

Also, the vehicle does not have an airbag in the center (placed between the two seats in front) and a airbags for the side of the pelvis or side chest airbags that are designed for the rear passengers.
