Hyundai Issues Another Recall For Ioniq PHEV, Seats May Catch Fire

As per Hyundai and NHTSA the automaker has issued another recall of the 2017 and 2018 Ioniq plug-in hybrid electric cars (PHEVs). The hybrid version that is traditional is also affected.

If you're not aware For those who aren't aware, it appears that the South Korean automaker already addressed the same issue, recalling the vehicles, and then provided dealers with a fix.

But it seems that the fix was not adequate or the dealers did not make repairs or replacements for the hybrid component in a timely manner.

The issue is in place, and can cause significant problems, and eventually lead to the start of a fire. Consumer Reports notes that this is part of a series of Hyundai recalls that could be related to fires.

The first recall was reported in October of 2018. However the 4 Ioniqs have caught fire following repairs in several Hyundai franchised dealers.

Implemented the recall in a way that was not properly. Hyundai says it's only aware of four incidents and that there are no reported incidents or injuries that could be linked to the issue.

There's a problem, in essence, with a hybrid component that can overheat. The owners could be not able to start their car or even turn on an HEV warning light displayed on the dashboard display.

Although the recall affects over 10,000 Ioniq hybrids and PHEVs the affected PHEVs were manufactured between August 10 and 11, 2017.

Hybrids of standard design that were manufactured between November 16 and 16, 2017 between August 16 and 16, 2017 are also affected.

In the first NHTSA recall, 18V704, Hyundai had dealers inspect and replace the part that was defective however it appears that it didn't resolve the issue.

Hyundai will, again, tell dealerships to change the relay's power in its new recall initiative 22V459.
